ASTM Sustainability Reference Database
The trend toward sustainability has been very strong in recent years as both the private and public sectors continue to develop new programs that bring specific sustainability issues to the forefront. ASTM has also played a major role in helping to fulfill the world's sustainability needs through the development of consensus standards. Below is a database which references ASTM standards, and other standards and programs from organizations involved in sustainability.
Scope: ASTM’s Sustainability Reference Database includes a variety of resources to assist with assessing sustainable practices, products, programs and development and other issues related to the environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability. It includes standards, guidelines, practices, model codes and certification protocols that meet the requirements below. Inclusion of a document in the database is not an endorsement nor recommendation by ASTM.
To maintain use-ability and relevance, items included within the database must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Be current ASTM standards
- Reference ASTM standards
- Be referenced by an ASTM standard
- Provide best practices for sustainability or establishes clear thresholds for sustainability
- Meet the criteria set forth in Decision on Principles for the Development of international Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee. This would include but not be limited to ANSI/ANS standards, ISO and ASTM.
The database does not include:
- Product Category Rules
- Environmental Product Declarations Life Cycle Inventory databases
- Life Cycle Assessment reports
- Test methods
- Information relating to the sustainability assessment of specific products
The document vetting and review process includes:
- Direct oversight by ASTM E60.80 Database Ad Hoc Group and E60.90 Executive
- Submissions under consideration are included in ASTM Society Review with membership feedback requested
- Periodical review of existing content to determine continued inclusion
