Serving Communities Worldwide

Helping our world begins with helping our communities. ASTM International is committed to good corporate citizenship, and supports a variety of charitable causes while maintaining good relations with community leaders in the area surrounding its global headquarters — and around the world.

Below are just a few of the ways ASTM serves communities worldwide. Download ASTM’s “Helping Our World Work Better” report (PDF) for more information.

Thinking Globally. Acting Locally.

ASTM International is a proud supporter of many programs and activities in communities near its global headquarters just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA).

The Conshohocken and West Conshohocken fire companies, for example, keep the community safe — thanks in part to our supporting donations which allow them to buy up-to-date equipment for workers and emergency vehicles.

ASTM International's support of Friends of Conshohocken Free Library fund events for children and families. Our donations have also allowed the library to buy state-of-the-art computer equipment which includes access to our 12,000+ technical standards.

Promoting Health and Wellbeing

ASTM International's employees are collectively and individually involved in charitable work in the places where they live.

Our staff members regularly raise and donate funds to local chapters of organizations including the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, the National MS Society, and the Foundation for Breast and Prostate Health.

ASTM International also supports locally based nonprofits such as Angel Flight East, For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, and the Kelly A. Dolan Memorial Fund.

Empowering STEM and Environmental Education

ASTM International is committed to promoting educational opportunities for young people in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). This includes sponsorship of The Franklin Institute — a large, hands-on science museum in Philadelphia — and its STEM education programs. Additionally, ASTM sponsors Wissahickon High School Robotics Team 341, also known as "Miss Daisy,” in the annual, international FIRST® Robotics Competition, as well as the Upper Merion School District's Robotics Team.

ASTM International also supports Riverbend Environmental Education Center which helps students — including those from underprivileged backgrounds — explore nature and learn about sustainability, a key area for ASTM International's technical committees. Local children also enjoy recreational and educational opportunities through ASTM’s support for the West Conshohocken Summer Program and the Fellowship House of Conshohocken.

Supporting U.N. Sustainable Development Goals

ASTM International is working to increase the awareness of the link between its standards and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative began in 2018 with participation in and support of the Standards for the Sustainable Development Goals Workshop held in Geneva, Switzerland.

At ASTM International, there is a collaborative staff initiative to identify and promote the role of standards in meeting the U.N.’s Vision 2030. A wide range of ASTM stakeholders — and the global community at large — will be served by these efforts in addressing and meeting that vision.
