Section 5.3.1 states “A spring inside the probe applies the specified test load…”. This statement unnecessarily limits probe design because it is based on old probe designs that used a mechanical spring and a switch mechanism to measure the frequency shift when the chosen test force was achieved. Newer technologies such as load cells can measure the frequency when the specified test force is reached without the use of a spring. This ballot item changes the wording so that probe design is not limited to any one design or technology.
