ALTERNATIVE METHOD TO OBTAIN WEIGHT OF GRANULES DISPERSED OR APPLIED:
1. Accurately weigh out and record an amount of granules that should fill half of the hopper and pour into hopper.
2. Operate the applicator over the measured course at the speed determined in 6.1.2. When the course application is complete, close the applicator opening to prevent any more granules coming out.
3. If the applicator is small enough, tip the unit on its side and empty the remaining granules (in the hopper) into a collection bin. If the applicator is too large to tip, roll the unit onto a large tarp or mat. Open the orifice or opening so that the remaining granules pour out onto the tarp/mat – unit might have to be tipped or jostled to release all remaining granules. Be sure not to allow any granules to spill out beyond the tarp/mat edges.
4. Carefully weigh and record the remaining granules in the collection bin. If a tarp/mat was used, carefully pull up the tarp/mat corners and pour into a collection bin and weigh/record these granules.
5. Take the recorded weight of the granules remaining in the applicator and subtract from the starting weight of granules that were poured into the applicator. This will give you the “Quantity Used” value which can be used to calculate the Granular Application Rate in Step 7.1.1:
Quantity Used = Starting Weight of Hopper Granules - Weight of Granules Remaining in Hopper after application
