A laboratory method to extract and quantify the rubber content of harvested plant tissue.
guayule; rubber dandelion; ASE; Accelerated Solvent Extraction; gravimetry
The standard is needed to support development of alternative natural rubber-producing crops worldwide. Rubber content is an important measure of success to determine if introduction if new crops are economically viable. The method will be used by breeders and growers to develop cultivars and agronomic practices, by engineers to measure extraction process efficiency in pilot and commercial scale operations, and by researchers seeking to improve crops and better understand rubber biosynthesis.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
