Scope
1.1 This test method covers the determination of the force required to engage snap fasteners with a compressive force applied perpendicular to the plane of the material to which the snap fastener is attached, in a laboratory setting.
1.2 This test method requires attachment of snaps to specimens using specifications provided by the producers of the snaps.
1.3 This test method is used to establish correlation to wear conditions and for comparing different brands and types of snap fasteners.
1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the inch-pound units are shown in parentheses. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the specification.
1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

D13.54 has long held the standard D4846 Standard Test Method for Resistance to Unsnapping of Snap Fasteners. Laboratories and manufactures have seen a need to have a standard for snapping pressure. In the past there was a TS-013 procedure that was available and a work items was opened, but it never became a standard. The committee wants to take this on again to provide a standard for laboratories to perform this test method.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
