Revision of C140/C140M-23a Standard Test Methods for Sampling and Testing Concrete Masonry Units and Related Units
Rationale
This ballot item proposes adding concentrated center load capacity test procedures for pedestal-set slabs to Annex A8 – Test Procedures for Segmental Concrete Paving Slabs. Because many of the criteria for these slabs (e.g., dimensional tolerance, sampling and specimen curing), are the same as for C1782 Segmental Concrete Paving Slabs, Annex A8 will remain largely intact except that now there will be an option to test for either (i) Modulus of Rupture for slabs being tested for compliance with C1782 or (ii) Concentrated Load Capacity for slabs being tested for compliance with the new proposed standard for pedestal-set slabs. Having the test procedures in the same annex will facilitate future revisions and maintain consistency for testing the two types of slabs.
Besides this ballot item which adds the center load capacity test procedures to Annex A8 there is a second item being balloted that establishes the new specification for pedestal-set slabs. Administrative negatives will be submitted for both items to keep them coordinated and assure that they both are published at the same time.
