This method covers the determination of dissolved elements in ground waters, surface waters and drinking water. It may also be used for determination of total recoverable, or total element concentrations in these waters as well as wastewaters, mine-impacted waters, biosolids, soils, and geochemical samples.
Dissolved elements are determined after suitable filtration and preservation.
For the determination of total, or total recoverable analytes in aqueous. biological, and solid samples a digestion or extraction is required prior to analysis.
This method includes the use of Interference removing technology, such as collision or reaction cells to remove interferences if necessary. Correction equations may also be used.

This method is to complement D5673 which determines metals by in water by ICP-MS, however, D5673 does not include use of collision or reaction cell interference removal technology. In addition, the method adds more elements than included in D5673.
