This test method covers analysis of phenolic antioxidants in the range of 1 mg/L to 50 mg/L and icing inhibitors in the range of 500 mg/L to 10000 mg/L in aviation fuels defined by ASTM D1655, such as petroleum-based aviation fuel,bio-aviation fuel and Fischer-Tropsch synthetic aviation fuel, by solid phase extraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPE-GC/MS).

Antioxidants are added to the jet fuels as a protection against oxidation and forming gums. Also, icing inhibitors are needed to avoid ice formation in jet fuel under cold environment. Their content is very important for the storage, trade and use of aviation fuel. However, the current product standards such as D1655 and, GB6357 only specifies their contents but do not give the determination method. A standard method for accurately measuring their contents is therefore needed.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
