1.1 This test method covers the measurement of the cut resistance of a material when mounted on a sample holder and subjected to a cutting edge under a specified load at ambient and cryogenic temperatures using a tomodynamometer.
1.1.01 Another procedure for measuring the cut resistance of materials used in protective clothing is given in Test Method F2992.
1.1.1 This procedure is not valid for high-porosity materials which allow cutting edge contact with the mounting surface prior to cutting.
1.1.2 Test apparatus may have limitations in testing materials with a thickness greater than 20 mm.
spacesuit, spacesuit gloves, human spaceflight, cryogenic conditions
Use a tomodynamometer equipped with a cryogenic flow system to measure cut resistance of textiles and other materials at both ambient and cryogenic temperatures in order to model resistance against hazards found in both orbital and lunar environments.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
