This test method provides a procedure for evaluating the ability of prepared assemblies of asphalt roofing shingles to resist impact forces of falling hail. Propelled ice balls are used to simulate falling hailstones.

New methods for impacting and evaluating the impact resistance of asphalt roofing shingles to falling hailstones exist and are in practice today. The creation of this standard will place those practices into a consensus standard.
