Some metallic materials exhibit anisotropic behavior in elastic constants, including Poisson’s Ratio. Currently ASTM E132-17 requires reporting of “grain direction”, however this is not explicitly defined within the body of the standard. The language within the body and a figure should be included to define specimen orientations for conventional wrought materials relative to longitudinal, long-transverse and short-transverse grain directions (L-T-S coordinate system) for rectangular cross-sections or geometric directions for cylindrical cross-sections (L-C-R coordinate system).
