The Standard Practice for Human Factors in Commercial Spaceflight highlights various human factors considerations for design, qualifications screening, training, ground operations and maintenance, occupant protection, and risk assessment, to ensure emphasis is placed on the human systems in human spaceflight. It applies to owners, operators, manufacturers, technicians, contractors, and supply chain organizations involved in the development and maintenance of human-rated spaceflight vehicles, habitats, and related spaceflight activities.

With the advancement of human spaceflight and more market entrants, the commercial space transportation industry has recognized a need for human factors guidelines to facilitate the safe operation of spacecraft. This standard will establish practices for considering human factors in all aspects of the development of commercial human spaceflight and its related activities.
