Cracking distress is a common failure mode observed by state agencies. Further, as the industry trends moves towards the use of increased reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and recycled asphalt shingles (RAS), implement balance mixture design (BMD) framework, and establish sustainability initiatives there is a need to evaluate cracking resistance of asphalt mixture. This ballot is for re-approval of ASTM D 8044, with the recommended tolerance changes from NCHRP Project 9-57A “Ruggedness of Laboratory Tests to Assess Cracking Resistance of Asphalt Mixtures” (RR 987) are incorporated into this ballot item. Also, the scope and P&B sections have language added per the D4 Precision and Bias Policy. Only the items highlighted in red are being specifically balloted.
