Standard specification for special stainless steel shielded, rubber gasketed couplings for joining hubless cast iron soil pipes and fittings used in drain, waste, and storm water applications where additional joint restraint is required. These couplings have an integral restraint feature which allows the couplings to be used in locations where external joint restraint cannot easily be installed at vertical changes of direction and locations subject to extended periods of maximum flow. It is not the intent of this standard to to replace standard couplings, ASTM C1277 or CISPI 310 or heavy duty couplings, ASTM C1540. Gaskets meeting the requirements of ASTM C564 with an integral center stop are required for the sealing sleeves.
Hubless Cast iron pipes and fittings, gasket sealing sleeves, thermoset rubber gaskets.
Currently joint restraint is required for hubless cast iron soil pipes and fittings 5 inch and larger at changes of direction. This joint restraint is usually accomplished using external restraint. This new standard will provide an alternative method of restraint by the use of couplings having restraining features. The users will be design professionals and installers of these piping systems.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
