How to decontaminate cylinders used to deliver high purity (instrument grade) 99.5%+ hydrocarbon gases in order to maintain purity standards across the chain of custody and prevent toxic petroleum accumulations or cross contaminations between users.
butane; propane; isobutane; lp cylinders for extraction; high purity butane; high purity propane; high purity isobutane; Biomass extraction; Benzene accumulation; BTEX Compounds; 99.5%+ gas; Instrument Grade Gas; Extraction Grade Gas; Lab Grade Gas; Extraction; Extraction Solvent; Solvent Direct; Liquid Petroleum Gas; Liquid Petroleum Cylinders; FDA CFR Section 211.80 to Section 211.94
Cylinders used for the delivery of high purity gases commonly used in biomass extraction require extra attention in the receipt, inspection, cleaning, and repair processes prior to reuse. Risk of cylinder contamination with oil from biomass extraction and the potential for BTEX compounds and other impurities to accumulate between refills is likely without regular cylinder decontamination. Further, cross contaminations between users can lead to harmful insecticides, pesticides and other contamination inconsistent with the purity standard transferring from one user's facility to the next. These impurities shall be assessed by the company filling the cylinder based on the market applications, known hazards, prior incidents, and/or available literature. Biomass oil contamination represents a safety hazard for the cylinder filler, customer, and/or user as well as an additional quality issue for users.
