New Guide for Stored Hemp Chaff Intended for Cannabinoid Extraction
1. Scope
This guide can be used by broadacre hemp farmers and cannabinoid extraction companies to target aspects of hemp chaff storage that assist consistent quality. Hemp farmers using orchard or horticulture methods of production may use more intensive practices in addition or in-lieu of practices identified in this guide. This guide applies to the storage of hemp chaff intended as ingestible cannabinoid products only.

Rationale
The harvesting of hemp chaff from outdoor broad-acre fields is new to some regions and a guide to assist storage practices at the farm level is outlined. Since the hemp chaff material may be harvested at moisture levels higher than that conducive for optimum storage, moisture in particular must be managed. The presence of excess moisture can contribute to heating of hemp chaff during storage, growth of mold leading to spoilage, and render products un-useable or less amenable for extraction. As further test methods applicable at the field level are identified, additional properties and target thresholds may be added to this guide. This guide outlines recommended procedures important to farmers who harvest hemp chaff, and can assist meeting initial quality aspects for cannabinoid extractors. Upon approval this guide will be submitted for National Standards Designation in Canada. Input from several hemp chaff extraction experts were used in the draft of this guide.
