New Guide for Resilience-Based Design of Culverts Exposed to Wildfire Events

1. Scope

The serviceability of culvert and storm drain pipe systems is critical to maintain the functionality and safety of roadways. This guide provides a framework, including best practices, mitigation measures, and design checks, to enhance the resilience of these systems when exposed to wildfire events. This guide also provides terminology for the covered approaches.

Keywords

Resilience; culvert pipe; storm drain pipe; wildfire.

Rationale

The increased occurrence of wildfires in the U.S. has highlighted the need to develop a rational approach to design culverts for resilience to wildfire.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
