The proposed scope captures the details of geometry and scale of powder capture artefacts (the methodologies are informed based on empirical datasets), artefact(s) placement on the build envelope (the methodologies are informed based on empirical datasets, cost constraints), and powder bed density indirect estimation methods (based on infiltration, geometric measurements, and computed tomography (optional)).
Additive manufacturing; laser powder bed fusion; powder bed density estimate; powder capture artefact
The evaluation of powder bed density is necessary in laser powder bed fusion to assess powder spread quality (uniformity across build bed, changes in powder spread characteristics between powder batches, etc.) and to inform modeling strategies towards process parameter optimization.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
