New Practice for Standard Practice for Rehabilitation of Existing Building Drain, Waste and Vent Piping Using a Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) Lining System

1. Scope

This practice will describe the procedures for the rehabilitation or reconstruction using cured-in-place thermosetting resin pipe (CIPP) of above-ground and underground building drain, waste and vent pipelines with 2 to 12 in. diameter or greater constructed of steel, cast iron, concrete, and clay. Pull/push-in-place and inversion installation methods will be included, as well as ambient, hot water, steam and light-cure processing methods.

Keywords

ambient cure; LED cure; UV cure; continuous; cured-in-place pipe; epoxy; felt; inversion; knit; drain pipe; soil pipe; sewer pipe; vent pipe; resin; building sewer; building drain; steam cure; vacuum impregnation; rehabilitation; thermosetting resin pipe

Rationale

This standard is needed as currently there is no ASTM standard for the rehabilitation or reconstruction of building drain, waste and vent pipelines using CIPP to minimize disruption of existing infrastructure and improve health and safety when performing maintenance and repairs on existing pipe during construction and after. The standard will enable users with specific practices for material selection, installation methods, quality controls, and inspection. Users will include plumbers, contractors, municipalities, engineers, property owners, building and plumbing code development and enforcement entities.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
