1.1 This test method covers the determination of adsorbable organic fluorine (AOF) in waters and waste waters that can be adsorbed to activated carbon. Samples containing 1-100 g/L AOF can be analyzed. This test method also covers samples containing suspended solids and not soluble fluorine containing substances adsorbed to these. This test method covers determination of total organic fluorine (TOF) for all substances that can be adsorbed to activated carbon. 1.2 This test method provides a screening method to assess contamination of samples in total. It is useful for industrial and governmental users to screen samples before detailed analysis for PFCs, PFAS, PFOS, or other potentially harmful compounds. 1.3 The upper limit of this test method is dependent upon total anion concentration and may be determined experimentally. These limits may be extended by appropriate dilution. 1.4 Units--The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
