The purpose of this standard is to establish procedures and methodologies for conducting visual inspections of building facades via drone, and documenting such inspections.

In the USA, there are twelve cities with faade ordinances requiring periodic inspection of building faades or their appurtenances. This amounts to approximately 30,000 buildings requiring periodic inspection. This standard is needed to provide building professionals and drone pilots with a methodology for documenting faade conditions utilizing a camera mounted to a drone. It cites established FAA protocols and ASTM standards for the operation of a drone and further establishes an approach to scanning a building faade, preserving the data, and utilizing data recorded for reporting purposes.
