1.1 This standard establishes the performance requirements for a nanostructured, zinc alloy coating, comprising no less than 95% zinc, on steel. 1.2 The nanostructured, zinc alloy coating must comprise nanoscale-grains of zinc or must comprise nanoscale layers of zinc alloy. 1.3 The intended application method for the nanostructured, zinc coatings is a deposition process and may include: physical vapor deposition, chemical vapor deposition or immersion plating. 1.4 This specification covers both unfabricated products and fabricated products, for example: rebar, long products, assembled steel products and structural steel fabrications. This specification also covers steel forgings and iron castings. This stabilizing system is intended for use on both structural and non-structural steel components and assemblies. 1.5 1.3 This specification does not apply to wire, pipe, tube, or steel sheet which is typically coated on specialized or continuous lines. 1.6 The nanostructured zinc alloy coating may be one of three categories of products based upon intended use and performance properties including: Category I: 25 m (0.001 inches) nanostructured zinc alloy coating without passivate Category II: 25 m (0.001 inches) nanostructured zinc alloy coating with Cr (III) passivate Category III: 25 m (0.001 inches) nanostructured zinc alloy coating with Cr (IV) passivate 1.7 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety requirements, quality control procedures and to determine the applicability of regulatory requirements prior to use.
